Meet Daniel Buonaiuto
_My name is Dan Buonaiuto and I've recently landed in the Chicago by way
of Boston and Colorado. While Chicago is a far cry from the tall
mountains of the Rockies and the rolling waves of the Massachusetts
coastline, I am very much enjoying the pace and potential of the Windy
City. I look forward to getting more involved with the greater Chicago
community, both as an individual and through my venture.
After spending a number of years exploring different avenues of agriculture and environmentalism, I came across a different concept for a farm then the pastoral fantasy of rolling hills and green fields that most of us grown up with. A farm that feeds a city should be in the city, and it should fit in to the cityscape in all of its facets. My venture is a farm housed in a building, where indoor aquaponic growing floors allow for year round vegetable production. Just as the city maximizes resources, the farm building is power by collecting organic waste and turning it into energy. Just as the city is multilayered, the growing floors are designed to be an aesthetic and welcoming space for the community to engage in workshops, heath and excursive classes and consultations and communal gatherings. The world has changed and the problems with our food system are massive and acute, its time our approach to dealing with them changes too.
